You’ve decided what DANB exams you want to take and maybe even picked a testing date. Now what?

If you’re feeling overwhelmed about how to prepare, these steps can help you develop your study plan for your DANB exams.

First, review the exam blueprint.

The exam blueprint is what DANB calls the outline of all the topics you may find on the exam. As you read through the list of topics, make a note of which topics you feel the most confident about, which topics you may need to brush up on, and the topics that might require a lot of extra studying. This can help you figure out where to start and how to prioritize.

Next, find study materials that work for you.

Once you know the topics you’ll need to review, figure out which study materials will help you the most.

The DALE Foundation’s study aids
The DALE Foundation, the official DANB affiliate, offers interactive, online courses and practice tests that can help you prepare for DANB exams on your own schedule. And, as an added bonus, DALE Foundation courses can also help you earn CDE credits.

Textbooks and other materials
If you went to school for dental assisting, you might have held on to your old textbooks and notes. These materials can be helpful when studying. DANB has also compiled a list of suggested textbooks and reference materials that you may find useful.

Lastly, find what works for you.

Everyone who takes an exam has a different level of experience and training, and has different study methods. What worked well for one person may not work for you, so find the study methods that help you feel prepared, confident and ready to take your exam.
