From March 1-7, 2020, dental professionals in dental offices and schools across the country celebrated Dental Assistants Recognition Week (DARW), as designated by the American Dental Assistants Association.
Since then, we’ve received an outpouring of messages from dental assistants eager to share their DARW photos and stories. For example, the photo above was contributed by the Dental Assisting Program at Southeastern Technical Institute in South Easton, Massachusetts: “We celebrated with daily surprises for our students including sweet treats and gifts,” they reported. “We also were able to recognize our students on our school website and social media.”
Below, we spotlight more of the many festivities that took place. Thank you to everyone who submitted their DARW photos and stories!
Fun Festivities (and Four-Legged Friends!)
Many dental assistants celebrated DARW with “me time” that included an afternoon or evening at the spa; relaxing at home with their favorite food, TV shows and books; or spending time with their friends, family members and even four-legged friends.
We especially enjoyed seeing this photo at left of Tucker the dog, which one dental assistant submitted along with the caption: “How did I celebrate DARW? With gifts, lunch and a puppy — it was fun!”
We often hear that dental teams enjoy planning DARW luncheons, so that dental assistants are guaranteed a well-deserved break in their busy day.
For example, Santa Fe Community College submitted this photo at left of dental assisting students sharing a potluck meal during DARW.
Shana D. also was excited to celebrate DARW with her team: “Our office gave each assistant a coffee drink in the morning and then took us out to lunch! We like treats and food where I work.”
Another common, sweet way to celebrate DARW is with cake and other desserts shared together as a dental team. At left is one cake photo submitted by Zena B., COA — it looks beautiful and tasty!
Similarly, one dental office shared this fun photo below of an ice cream party enjoyed by staff during DARW.
And Sandra C., CDA, told us all about how her longtime employer marked the special week: “It was a great celebration! We were spoiled every day of DARW with lunch, cake, gift cards, coffee, flowers and small gifts every day. I am very blessed to say I have been with the same dentist for 20 years. I love my team and career.”
Lastly, dental assistants are grateful when they’re recognized during DARW by not only their colleagues, but also their friends and family members.
To show how she celebrated, Maria P. submitted this photo at left of a lovely flower arrangement delivered during DARW to her workplace:
“My family sent these flowers to the office, along with a box of chocolates!”
And these assistants pictured above, at far left, also were grateful to be gifted roses in the dental office in honor of DARW. “We love our assistants and DARW,” says Megan L.
Thank you for sharing your DARW photos with us!
