The American Association of Dental Office Management (AADOM)’s 2017 Practice Administrator of the Year is Terri Lenihan, CDPMA, FAADOM.

“I’m excited and honored,” says Lenihan, who since 1999 has been the practice administrator at Omni Dental Centre, with locations in both Carter Lake and Council Bluffs, Iowa. She is also president of the Metro Omaha Dental Office Leaders and volunteers for a variety of organizations, including Give Kids a Smile, Mission of Mercy and Omni Cares.

Lenihan learned that she was chosen for the award from among 28 nominees during the first day of the 13th Annual Dental Management Conference, held Sept. 7-9, 2017, in Scottsdale, Arizona.

“There were some very good candidates,” says Lenihan. “It was quite the honor to be chosen out of all of them.”

A 2010 AADOM Fellow, Lenihan has been attending AADOM annual conferences since 2007, when she became a member of the association. What she most enjoys about AADOM’s annual conferences is the camaraderie.

“It’s a great way to be able to connect with your peers,” she says. “I love the interaction with the people who do the same thing you do every day. You’re not alone out there. There are other people who are having the same experiences that you might have in your practice.”

Each year, Lenihan also looks forward to the educational opportunities that AADOM offers. “I love to learn,” she says. “I’m always wanting to learn something to help the practice and help my patients.”

Lenihan has advice for lifelong learners: “Even if you’re not going to get AADOM Fellowship — which I would encourage — take DALE Foundation courses. They are a huge help.”
